Did You Expect To Live Thru The Great Tribulation & Never Die At All?
by minimus ini always had my doubts about that but i was at least hopeful that all would work out as they said.
i saw so many "faithful ones" who were true believers expire before they got the prize, that i started to think it probably wouldn't happen in my lifetime.. what a bunch of suckers, huh?.

I dreramt about it, but the feelings of guilt about doing "unapproved practices" and barely any serve-us had me doubting.
It is strange though. When you're born-in and have never been presented with the substance for the shaky paradise earth doctrine, you just accept it as fact. We learn to not ask questions or really weigh the "facts". Honestly most born-ins that I know know less about the Borg, it's doctrines and history than most of the apostates on this site!

I know how you feel about feeling like a hypocrite. If the two choices you present are the ONLY two choices (which they aren't), the option one would be best. You've already put in 2 years, what's a little more? Perhaps you should have been doing this all along. But there HAS to be more choices.
What about college? Could you go away to college and just fade? Would your folks help you out with that or at least help you get a student loan? Then you're not homeless and are pointing your life in the right direction.
Have you ever considered at least showing SOME of the things you have learned? Your dad is an elder and he has his mind made up for him, but what about your mum? Is she a little more reasonable? Having one sympathetic parent is a lot better tha zero.
Just some thoughts.

Judge Rutherford Was Extremely Politically Neutral
by God_Delusion inhowdy guys and gals,.
yesterday i received an email from a jwb visitor which pointed me to the 1934 yearbook.
i was completely shocked to see just how politically neutral the 2nd president of the watchtower society really was.. here's the article - http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/jehovahs-witness-history/are-jehovahs-witnesses-politically-neutral/.

I'm a little confused after reading the Reader's Digest article in jgnat's post. The article was published in 1941, and it references the witnesses' changing the 1914 doctrine to mean Christ's rule would start WWI. I thought they didn't change this till 1943?
Could someone please clear that up?

Be Thankful You Weren't in this Underground Cult! Literally Under-Ground
by Diest inmoscow (reuters) - seventy members of an islamist sect who have been living in an underground bunker without heat or sunlight for nearly a decade have been discovered living on the outskirts of the city of kazan in russia, local media reported.. the sect members included 20 children, the youngest of whom had just turned 18 months.
many of them were born underground and had never seen daylight until the prosecutors discovered their dwelling on august 1 and sent them for health checks.. a 17-year-old girl turned out to be pregnant.. religion was suppressed in the soviet union which collapsed in 1991, prompting various cults and sects to flourish in the vacuum that opened up.. the group - known as the "fayzarahmanist" sect - was named after its 83-year-old organiser fayzrahman satarov, who declared himself a prophet and his house an independent islamic state, according to a report by state tv channel vesti.. satarov was described as a former deputy to a sunni islamic cleric in the 1970s.
his followers were encouraged to read his manuscripts and most were banned from leaving their eight-storey underground bunker which had been dug in the basement of a building, vesti said.. prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the sect and have said it will be disbanded if it continues its illegal activities, such as stopping its members from seeking medical assistance or education.. no arrests have been made although police are likely to look into suspicions that some of the children were being abused.

Persecuted! Ha. They just don't get that trying to outlaw them will just validate their delusions and make them work even harder.
I'm all for Russia cracking down on JWs, but this isn't the way to do it. They should at least make up a set of rights for everyone in their country, and punish groups who encroach on these rights. Either fine them, or remove their non-taxable status. Hit them where it hurts.
Though I'm not sure that's Russia's style.

Attention Governing Body: October 2, 2014 is only 940 days away...
by Alfred inin 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.
oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.
but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

No doubt the mighty J will bring on the genocide Armageddon before then. He would not let that embarrassment bring reproach upon his name. Surely all apostates will die a coward's death on that day!

Billy: I made the observation to my parents that there's only one part on the meeting that really revolves around looking at the Bible. Why is it the Bible Highlights is such a pathetically short part of the meeting? Why is it in the instructions that comments are to be kept so short that you can't develop a complete thought out of a verse?
So true. In fact, lately the brothers doing the highlights have been asking the cong to try and apply their comments and observations to the ministry.
It is very clear that JWs don't know how to read the bible, but they won't have a chance if they're TRYING to misapply every scripture!
